Horns Campbell turning pro

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

After a five-year career with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team, Tim Campbell is moving on to the pro ranks.

The veteran defenceman and Pronghorns captain has signed a pro contract with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL for the remainder of the season.

In five years with the Pronghorns, Campbell — who hails from Thornhill, Ont. — never missed a conference game and finished tied for the Canada West lead in all-time games played with 140.

In that time, Campbell scored 30 goals and added 33 assists and led the Horns in 2015-16 in goals-scored with 12 in 28 games.

Campbell was recently named a Canada West First Team AllStar and was twice named to the CIS/U SPORTS all-star team that faced the Canadian World Junior hopefuls in a pair of exhibition games.

The Walleye are in first place in the Central Division with a record of 39-13-2-1, which is the second best record in all of the ECHL.

The Walleye have 17 games left in the regular season and Campbell will join the team this weekend.

Campbell is the first Pronghorn graduate to sign a pro contract since Andrew Courtney signed with the Missouri Mavericks following the 2010-11 Canada West season.
