Kodiaks run to ACAC medals

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks legged their way to five medals at The Running Room ACAC Indoor Track Championsh­ip Friday and Saturday at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

Those totals were enough to give the Kodiaks third place the medal standings before the MacEwan Griffins and the SAIT Trojans.

On the final day Saturday, the hosts turned in a gold medal performanc­e in the men’s 4x400 metre relay as anchor Dayton Jans took the anchor and ran the Kodiaks to victory with a time of 3:41.27, edging out MacEwan University (3:43.30) and SAIT (3:44.50).

Jans also earned the Kodiaks a silver medal Saturday, running a time of 1:28.78 in the men’s 600m race.

On the opening day Friday, the Kodiaks won three bronze medals.

Emily Spencer clocked in a time of 11:15.73 in the women’s 3,000m, while Kayla Enders also hit the podium with a time of 43.62 in the women’s 300m.

Jans earned the other Lethbridge bronze medal Friday, running a time of 38.28 in the men’s 300m.

The Griffins took top spot in the medal standings with 17 (seven gold, six silver and four bronze), while the Trojans won silver with 10 (four gold, three silver and three bronze).

Red Deer took home two silver medals, while Concordia and Grande Prairie Regional College each won one bronze medal.

The Conference award winners were also named Saturday.

Bre McEachern and Ryan Edgar of SAIT were named as the Coaches of the year.

MacEwan’s Hannah Leggatt won the All-Conference Female Athlete of the Year, while Scott Kohlman, also of MacEwan was selected as the All-conference Male Male Athlete of the Year.

The MacEwan Griffins were crowned as the Female team champions and the SAIT Trojans took home the Male team champion award.
