Eagles sweep Deep South JV tournament­s

The Deep South Basketball Conference junior varsity league tournament hit the court at Immanuel Christian last weekend.

When the boys and girls finals rolled around Saturday afternoon, it was a sweep for the hosts as the Immanuel Christian Eagles girls defeated the Stirling Lakers 60-58 and the Eagles boys downed the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras 55-48.

In the girls’ final, Jenna Aleman led the Eagles with 22 points and Britney Vandemunt added 15.

For the Lakers, Sadie Nelson scored 19 points and Gracie Nelson chipped in with 15.

Levi Vroom led the Eagles with 19 points in the boys’ final. Justin Withage scored 10.

Aarron Wutke paced the Cobras with 17 points, while Kenneth Borebor counted for 12.

In the girls’ semifinals, the Eagles beat the Picture Butte Sugar Queens 64-30 as Vandemunt led with 22 points and Caitlyn Veldman had eight.

Reegan Molenaar struck for 13 points for Picture Butte and Jordan Quinn hit for eight.

In the other girls’ semifinal, Stirling downed the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 64-35.

Savannah McKee topped the Lakers with 23 points, while Nelson drained 16.

For Kate Andrews, Victoria Reed and Sophia Reimer each had nine points.

Immanuel Christian downed the Picture Butte Sugar Kings 64-47 in the boys’ semifinals.

Ryan Degner led the Eagles with 21 and Withage had 10.

Skylar Black had 17 points for the Sugar Kings and Sebastian Boone added 16.

In the other semifinal the Cobras scored a 71-50 win over the Pride.

Daxton Woodward and Wutke had 16 and 12 points, respective­ly, for Willow Creek.

Dalton Wiersma scored 10 points for Kate Andrews and Zac Hetesy put up nine.

In girls’ quarter-final action Friday, the Sugar Queens beat the Cobras 60-36 as Molenaar hit for 21 points and Quinn contribute­d 17.

Kelby Keely scored seven points for Willow Creek. Kailey Brunet added six.

The Pride girls beat Fort Macleod F.P. Walshe 62-37 in the other girls’ quarter-final.

Haylee Hilgerson put up 18 for Kate Andrews and Reed added 15 points.

Haley Cervo scored 10 points for the Flyers and Tiegan Trotter had five.

In the boys’ quarter-final game Friday the Sugar Kings beat the Flyers 47-43.

Sebastian Boone and Brant Reurink had 17 and 14 points, respective­ly, for Picture Butte, while Ben Crait put up 19 points for Fort Macleod and Darian Atwood added 13.
