4A boys, girls championsh­ip, consolatio­n finals set for tonight

The consolatio­n finals at the Southern Alberta High School Basketball League 4A South Zone boys and girls playdowns are set.

On Friday night, the Medicine Hat Mohawks defeated the Catholic Central Cougars 96-91 to earn a spot in the third-place game today at 4 p.m. at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

They will be joined in the consolatio­n final by the Cardston Cougars, who topped the LCI Rams 86-83 in a thriller in the late Friday draw.

The girls consolatio­n final is also set as the Medicine Hat Kwahommies take on the Cardston Cougars at 2 p.m. at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

The Kwahommies topped the Chinook Coyotes Friday afternoon, while the Cougars got past the Catholic Central Cougars.

In the first boys consolatio­n final, Matt Manas led the Mohawks with 36 points, while Anfernee Houmphanh had 25.

Darin Parker and Parker Davidson each had 10 points for Medicine Hat.

For the Cougars, Luka Korosec and Nick Gibb led Catholic Central with 17-point nights. Avery Hoffman added 14 points for the Cougars and Ben Hoveling had 11 and Cole Stroud and Alex Admonson chipped in with 10 each.

The gold medal games are also ready to take place tonight.

At 6 p.m. in the girls final, the firstranke­d LCI Clippers will face the No. 2 Raymond Comets at 6 p.m., while in the boys final, the No. 2 Comets take on No. 4 Magrath Zeniths at 8 p.m. Both gold medal games are at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.

In late 4A boys semifinal action Thursday night, the Comets downed the Medicine Hat Mohawks 108-103.

Boomer Heggie led the Comets with 34 points, Chase Bohne had 24, Brock Dewsbery added 18 and Spencer Roberts scored nine.
