A Lethbridge man caught with thousands of dollars worth of stolen property, including a car, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison.

When police searched Mitchell Ryan Foxcroft’s residence last year they found Canadian currency, stolen bicycles and power tools valued at over $5,000. They also found in his garage a 2013 Toyota Corolla that had previously been reported stolen.

Foxcroft, 28, pleaded guilty Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court to several counts of possession of stolen property, as well as charges of break and enter, attempted fraud, altering a vehicle identification number, breaching court orders, dangerous driving and drug trafficking.

Court was told police tried to stop Foxcroft last December when they saw him driving a stolen vehicle. Foxcroft sped away, however, and had to be apprehended later.

He and another individual were also stopped in March 2016 shortly after they broke into a locked compound in the industrial park and stole a trailer loaded with pipe fittings.

Although sentenced to 27 months in prison, Foxcroft was credited for 11 months he already spent in custody. His sentence also includes 12 months for drug trafficking in 2014 when he met an undercover police officer and sold the officer half a gram of cocaine for $80.

Defence lawyer Robin McIntyre explained her client began abusing painkillers following an accident, and after he lost his job last summer the drug abuse escalated.

“He is remorseful for his actions,” McIntyre told court.
