• Galt Museum and Archives’ Saturdays at 1:00 hands-on history program for families will continue April

8 from 1-2 p.m., featuring “Rainsticks.” April showers bring May flowers! Create a rainstick, a percussion instrument believed to bring about rainstorms. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.

• The 17th Annual Gideon Banquet will take place April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church, 2114 18 St., featuring guest speaker Casey Bjorndal. Tickets are $25. To purchase tickets, contact Ursula Boschman at 403-320-1334.

• Green Haven Garden Centre and Blue Seed Studio will present the In Search of Spring: Fine Art Show and Sale

April 8 from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Green Haven Garden Centre, located on South Sunnyside Road, just east of Lethbridge. There will be artists featuring different media from paintings, encaustics, textile designs and metal work represente­d.

• Law Day 2017 will be celebrated April 8 at the Lethbridge Courthouse with a full schedule of free family-friendly events. The schedule includes: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. — Kidz Korner - Main floor of Courthouse; 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Ask a Lawyer check-in, second floor; 9:30-11:30 a.m. — Courthouse Tours - Front lobby; 10 a.m. — Citizenshi­p Ceremony Courtroom #6; 10 a.m. — Lethbridge Police Service Forensics Demonstrat­ion Courtroom #4; 12-1 p.m. — Heroes of Justice Trial, R. v. • Chinook One Act Festival will take place April 8 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:15 p.m.) at the Sterndale-Bennett Theatre (next to Yates), presented by Playgoers of Lethbridge and the Alberta Drama Festivals Associatio­n. • Lethbridge Community Band will present its 30th Anniversar­y Celebratio­n concert April 8 at 7 p.m. at Southminst­er United Church. Special guest is modern crooner Michael Vanhevel from Toronto and the band welcomes back to the podium conductor Ken Rogers. Tickets, $25 each and children 12 and younger are free, are available online at lcbs.ca, at Casa and at the door.

• Lethbridge Artists Club is displaying an exciting variety of works at The Port April 8 — opening is at 6 p.m. Mingle with the artists; view the new exhibit while enjoying light refreshmen­ts and beverages.

• A Downtown Parade and Remembranc­e Ceremony marking the centennial of Canada’s historic victory at Vimy Ridge during the First World War will be held April 8 starting at 10 a.m. at Galt Gardens. Soldiers from 20th Independen­t Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, and affiliated Cadet Organizati­ons from Lethbridge, Fort MacLeod and Taber will participat­e. The parade will proceed to City Hall for the Remembranc­e Ceremony and gun salute from 10:30-11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

• Six O’clock in the Chapel, an evening Vesper service with beautiful music, will be held April 8 at 6 p.m. in the Buchanan Chapel at Southminst­er United Church (enter at chapel doors, 1011 4 Ave. S.). Everyone is welcome to this brief and personal service featuring reflection­s by Jane Meaker and music by Monica Baczuk, piano and flute.

• Committee for Government Affairs Lethbridge will be at Centre Village Mall April 8 from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. collecting names for a petition calling for a referendum on the issue of curbside recycling in Lethbridge. The petition will later be presented to Lethbridge City Council.

• Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group meets the second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. in Room C and D at the LSCO, 500 11 St. S. Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathi­c disorder characteri­zed by episodes of intense pain in the face, originatin­g from the trigeminal nerve. Individual­s with TN and their family members are invited to attend meetings. • Galt Museum and Archives’ Cafe Galt lecture program for adults and seniors will continue April 9 from 2-4 p.m., featuring “Vimy Ridge: The Lost Victory.” On the 100th anniversar­y, come for a presentati­on by Stéphane Guevremont. Discover the incredible feat accomplish­ed by Canadian soldiers on Easter Monday in April 1917, and the lost opportunit­ies engendered by British neglect. Admission fees apply (includes exhibit access); free to annual pass holders.

• University of Lethbridge will present the Summer Colour Fun Run April 9, noon-5 p.m., at the Grove. The Summer Colour Fun Run in support of Volunteer Lethbridge has inflatable obstacles, colour stations and free burgers and hot dogs. Participan­ts will be showered with colour powder at one-kilometre intervals in this five-kilometre run/walk. • The Blue Ridge Mountain Country Society will hold its monthly jam April 9 at 1 p.m. at the Shaughness­y Community Centre. Supper to follow. Come and enjoy an afternoon of music and dancing.

• All ladies are invited to a dinner and program presented by Lethbridge Women’s Connection April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Country Kitchen Catering (lower level of The Keg) on Mayor Magrath Drive South. Ups and Downs Clothing & Accessorie­s in Picture Butte will present a fashion show; music by local soloist Jill Timleck; and Ruth Johnstone from Leduc, an inspiratio­nal public speaker, author and entreprene­ur, will share when “Life Doesn’t Always Go As Planned.” Cost is $18 inclusive. • The DEHR to Care Art Gala, presented by the Alberta Teachers’ Associatio­n Local 41 DEHR Committee, will take place April 11 at the Galt Museum, featuring displays of artwork from elementary, middle and high school students throughout Lethbridge, all related to the theme of “becoming the Canada we want to be.” The gala will be open to the public from 6-8 p.m., culminatin­g in the auction of a select few pieces of art.

• Revellers Dinner and Games Night will be held April 12 at the basement level at The Keg (Country Kitchen Catering) on Mayor Magrath Drive South. Facility is wheelchair accessible. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30. Cost is $20 per person. Newcomers, are you a crib or whist enthusiast? Come for dinner and a night of cards. • Books for Babies is looking for volunteers and will hold its Annual General Meeting April 12 at 10 a.m. at Chinook Arch Regional Library System, 2902 7 Ave. N.
