Volunteers benefit from colour
‘SUMMER COLOUR FUN RUN’ PARTICIPANTS BRAVE THE CHILL
A little snow and rain didn’t stop hundreds of runners from participating in the Summer Colour Fun Run at the University of Lethbridge on Sunday.
It didn’t feel much like “summer” as old man winter hit the city with a spattering of snow Sunday morning, which fortunately didn’t stick around long.
The runners braved the cooler temperatures and puddles on the ground to bathe in a rainbow of coloured powder instead.
The sixth annual five-kilometre run/walk is in support of Volunteer Lethbridge.
“I was a little scared about the snow, but this is a rain or shine event and lots of people are here to just have a good time no matter what the weather is,” said Ginger Arthur Ciesla, Volunteer Lethbridge’s event and fund development co-ordinator.
More than 350 runners registered for the event, and 70 volunteers helped it all run smoothly.
Proceeds from this event support many different programs and initiatives of Volunteer Lethbridge, one of them being Project Paintbrush.
“Project Paintbrush is a program where we support seniors who are low-income or have other barriers to paint the exterior of their house or their fence,” said Arthur Ciesla. “It provides a real awesome opportunity to help those individuals who are in need and a good opportunity for volunteers as well to give back to the community.”
