PBA bats sound off at Lloyd Nolan

A pair of double-header sweeps in their homeopenin­g weekend has powered the Prairie Baseball Academy to an early 8-1 start to the Canadian College Baseball Conference season.

The PBA hosted the Calgary Dinos Thursday and Friday at Lloyd Nolan Yard and put up 16-6 and 11-1 wins Thursday before following that up with 16-8 and 12-2 decisions on Friday.

On Friday, the PBA jumped to an 8-1 lead after the third inning and added six more runs in the eighth to post the 16-8 win as three players had three-hit afternoons.

Lethbridge second baseman Carter Witbeck went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and six RBI, while shortstop Dylan Flasch was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI. PBA designated hitter Chris Ewanik batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Catcher Tyson Abbott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, David Leblanc was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI and Dalton Wells went 2-for-6 with one run scored.

Chris Messer earned the win for the PBA, throwing five innings and allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking two.

In the second win Friday, the PBA bats went to work early once again with a 9-0 lead after two innings.

Designated hitter Brett Semeniuk was 3-for-3 with two runs scored one RBI.

Hitting in the three-spot, Witbeck was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI and Flasch batted 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Abbott chipped in with two RBI.

Rhett Feser was the winning pitcher for the PBA. He went five shutout innings, giving up three hits while striking out seven and walking two.

On Thursday, the PBA kicked the day off with a 16-6 decision thanks to a 21-hit outing.

PBA third baseman Dylan Borman and Abbott accounted for eight of those hits

Borman batted 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI and Abbott was 4-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI.

Witbeck was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Flasch was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Brett Brittany batted 2for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Wells was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Greg Hollman earned the win on the hill for the PBA with six ininngs of work, allowing four runs on eight hits, fanning five Dinos batters and walking two.

In the second game Thursday, the PBA had 15 hits to post the 11-1 win in seven innings as Semeniuk had a four-hit afternoon, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Witbeck was 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI, Flasch was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Brittany went 2-for5 with one run scored.

PBA designated hitter Eric Davies batted 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Tanner Jesson-Dalton was the winning pitcher for the PBA, throwing five and two-thirds innings, giving up one run and three hits. He struck out 11 and walked two.

The PBA are off to Calgary Saturday and Sunday for four more games against the Dinos.

The teams play at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The PBA return home April 22 when the Okanagan College Coyotes pay a visit to Lloyd Nolan Yard at noon and 3 p.m.
