There will be quilts galore when the Lethbridge Centennial Quilters Guild hosts the Festival of Quilts 2017 Friday and Saturday at Lethbridge College.

The fourth biennial show will take place in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium, running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature approximately 200 quilts as southern Alberta quilters showcase their talents. The quilts will range from functional traditional quilts to contemporary art quilts.

Among the show’s highlights will be two “firsts” for the event — the first “Featured Quilter” as well as the inaugural “Bed Turning.”

The first “Featured Quilter” will be the LCQG’s president, Judy Barnett, who will have an assortment of her awardwinning quilts on display, depicting her quilting journey through the years.

Behind every quilt, there is story, hence the first “Bed Turning,” organized by LCQG member Wendy Benoit. As each quilt is “turned,” the story behind the cherished antique and special newer quilts will be revealed.

The show will include a Merchant Mall with about 20 vendors from Alberta and B.C. whose merchandise will include fabric, embellishments, books, fibre art supplies, and domestic and long-arm sewing machines.

There will also be a raffle of two beautiful quilts made by members of the guild.

Daily admission is $8, with free entry for everyone under the age of 18. For more information, visit the Lethbridge Centennial Quilters Guild website at
