Empress Theatre hosts summer camps
Once the novelty of lazy summer days wears off, many kids are looking for some organized fun. To help keep them entertained, summer theatre camps are once again being offered at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod in July and August.
Full-day and half-day camps are available for kids from ages 6-17. Camps take place at the theatre, and each session finishes with a performance for the participants to demonstrate what they’ve learned that week.
New this year is a camp called Creativity in Motion, where children will tell a story through the exploration of different forms of movement and dance.
This year’s sessions include: • Stories with Character — ages 8-14; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday, July 10 to Friday, July 14. Students will spend mornings doing creative activities focusing on acting and storytelling. They will work together with instructors to create, rehearse and perform an original short play. Performance will be Friday at 4 p.m. Fee: $125. • Puppet Adventures — ages 6-10; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21. Campers will find, build, make, invent their own puppet — find its voice and character and show it off. Performance will be Friday at 1 p.m. Fee: $65. • Creativity in Motion — ages 8-16; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28. Dance theatre. Participants will explore movement through dance.
