Bulls get back on winning track

An early two-out rally allowed the Lethbridge Bulls to end a six-game road swing on a winning note.

The Bulls defeated the Brooks Bombers 7-2 in Western Major Baseball League play Tuesday night in Brooks.

With the win the Bulls improve to 10-5 and wrap up the road trip at 3-3.

On Tuesday, the Bulls rallied for six runs with two out in the top of the second inning and added one more in the sixth.

Lethbridge pitcher Landen Bourassa worked six innings to earn the win, while first baseman Alex Bishop hit his fourth home run of the season to move into a tie for first in the league.

After a scoreless first inning, the Bulls went to work in the second. Jesse Hillyard singled and scored on a Ryan Pouwells base hit.

The two-out rally continued when Pouwells scored on a wild pitch and Dylan Flasch singled to score Brett Brittany for a 3-0 lead.

Carter Witbeck doubled to knock in Flasch and then crossed the plate on an Bishop single for a 5-0 lead. Bishop scored on a wild pitch to round out the six-run outburst.

The Bulls upped their lead to 7-0 in the top of the sixth on Bishop’s homer.

David Jones came on in relief to pitch the last three innings, but the Bombers spoiled the shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run homer from Cole Halfacre.

Bishop went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to up his total to 18 this season.

Blake MacDonald batted 2-for-5, while Hillyard was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Bourassa allowed three hits in six innings, walking one and striking out six.

The Bulls are back home for three games in three nights, starting Thursday at 7:05 p.m. when the Bombers pay a visit for the rematch.
