Miners get on the sticks with 4-0 weekend

- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Things are coming together nicely at the plate for the Lethbridge Miners.

The Miners downed the TriCounty Cardinals 14-4 and 10-0 in double-header American Legion play Sunday afternoon at Spitz Stadium.

That sweep comes one day after another 2-0 outing as the Miners headed to Fort Macleod and topped the Royals 8-1 and 6-3.

That 4-0 weekend ups the Miners record to 11-6 in conference play as the team starts enjoying a little contact at the dish.

“We did a good job of staying with approaches at the plate,” said Miners head coach Jared Ruff. “In the last two weeks the guys are really starting to excel with hitting, which is nice to see.”

In the first game Sunday, Dawson Ambrus had three hits, while Dallas Demers and Jeremiah Bohnert added two hits each.

Josh Oster earned the win, tossing a complete game and giving up one hit, one base on balls and five strikeouts.

In the 10-0 win, Levi Abbott had three hits and four RBI, Cale Moser had three RBI and Oster had two hits.

Scott Jensen went the complete game and gave up six hits, two earned runs and six strike outs.

In the 8-1 win Saturday in Fort Macleod, Abbott was 4for-5 with two runs scored and Moser was 4-for-5 with two RBI.

Nathan Reiter went seven innings for the win, giving up one unearned run and striking out 11.

In the Miners 6-3 win, Nolan Walls and Dustin Roe were both 2-for-3.

Bohnert went four and one-third innings, giving up five hits, three unearned runs and six strikeouts.

Abbott came in for the save and pitched two and onethird innings, gave up no base runners and struck out three.

The Miners hit the road this weekend when they take on the Lewistown Redbirds in a double header Friday in Lewistown.

The road trip continues Canada Day with another double header, this one in Havre against the Northstars.
