- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Univeristy of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s soccer team are back on the road this weekend.

Heading into the second weekend of the Canada West season, the Horns head to Edmonton to take on the defending USPORTS Champion Alberta Golden Bears today and the MacEwan Griffins on Sunday.

The Pronghorns head into the weekend looking for their first win of the season after going 0-2 to the Saskatoon Huskies last weekend.

Lethbridge was on the receiving end of two close losses in Saskatoon, dropping 1-0 and 2-1 decisions despite the stats in both games being identical.

First-year Pronghorn Ellis Davies scored the lone Lethbridge goal, while goaltender Matt Vandervoort got both starts, stopping stopped seven of 10 Huskie shots.

Last season, the Horns were the only team to beat the Golden Bears, beating the Bears 1-0 in Edmonton during the second-last weekend of the regular season.

Against the Griffins, the Pronghorns swept the season series 2-0.

The Bears are 2-0 and ranked first in the USPORTS first top-ten poll of the season. They opened with a pair of road wins last weekend, beating the Mount Royal Cougars 1-0 before blanking the Calgary Dinos 5-0.

The Griffins went 1-1 during the opening weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Dinos before topping the Cougars 3-2.

The Pronghorns return home next week to host the Dinos and the Cougars.

The Horns will host the Dinos Thursday night at 7 p.m. and face the Cougars Saturday at 2:15 pm.

The game against the Bears today goes a 2 p.m., while Sunday’s game against the Griffins kicks off noon.
