RMTC fall schedule begins

-

As summer begins to wind down, the hoof pounding, heartbeating action of live racing is about to return to the Rocky Mountain Turf Club this Saturday and Sunday.

There will be eight live races on Saturday and seven on Sunday.

Sunday’s races will feature the ever-popular first leg of the marathon starter allowance series. This race is always exciting and this year should be no exception, with horses such as Winterstone, trained by Lyle Magnuson, along with Blazing Temper, last year’s winner of the series, trained by Pete Dubois and Admiral Jaxon, trained by Gary Marks.

Also, there was an exciting announcement at Thursday’s press conference.

The extreme sport of horse racing is coming to Rocky Mountain Turf Club on Sept. 30 and October 1.

The Canadian Indian Relay Racing Association will be staging the first ever Canadian Championships.

The top-12 teams have qualified through six Canadian Indian Relay Racing Association-sanctioned events and have competed for over $50,000 in its first season.

Each event has seen a record number of teams entered from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Montana, setting new records in attendance with each event.

This will be the first time a relay event will be held in Lethbridge at Whoop Up Downs.

The popularity of Indian relay is growing in Canada at a phenomenal rate with more people becoming fans of this extreme sport. A growing number of teams from almost every tribe in both Alberta and Saskatchewan are performing every week and the level of competition increases with each race. The events will begin at 1 p.m., with live racing following immediately after.

Post time this weekend for both Saturday and Sunday is 1:15 p.m. and as always, in addition to great live racing action, there will be a number of familyfriendly events from the playground to the candy scramble. See you at the races.
