Reuse Rendezvous this weekend

- Dave Mabell LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Thousands of items will be available here, free, in early September.

Lethbridge’s sixth Reuse Rendezvous is set for Friday to Sunday. While it provides an opportunity for residents to rid themselves of nolonger-needed furniture or appliances, the city-wide event is also an opportunity for newly arrived students to pick up furnishings for their new places.

“Reuse Rendezvous is the perfect opportunity to declutter and pass on items that you no longer need,” says Kathleen Sheppard, executive director with Environment Lethbridge. “It’s also a great opportunity to find new-to-you treasures.

“For students returning for the fall semester, it’s the perfect way to furnish an apartment or dorm room.”

Taking part couldn’t be easier. On Friday, residents can simply place give-away items in front of their house with a “Free” sign attached. Free “Free” signs are available at the Environment Lethbridge office, 319 6 St. S., and participants are also invited to post their items on an online map at

Sheppard says electronics equipment that’s posted but not taken — computer components, TV sets, small appliances — will be picked up free by Efutures Renewables on the Sunday afternoon for safe disposal. Other items left remain the responsibility of the owner.

First launched by the city’s recycling department in 2011, Reuse Rendezvous is now hosted by Environment Lethbridge.
