Key weekend U of L women’s soccer

As they continue to battle it out for playoff positionin­g, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s soccer team heads into a key home-and-home series this weekend.

The Horns (3-4-1), take on the Calgary Dinos (3-2-3) in a two-game set, starting today in Calgary at noon before shifting back to the University of Lethbridge Stadium on Sunday, also at noon.

Heading into the weekend, the Pronghorns trail the Dinos by two points for fourth in the Prairie Division and are only four points out of second place.

The Pronghorns are also two points ahead of the Manitoba Bisons and six points ahead of both Regina and Winnipeg.

The top-six teams in the Prairie Division qualify for playoffs.

In their last action, the Pronghorns split their two games at home, beating the Winnipeg Wesmen 1-0 before falling 3-0 to the 2017 U SPORTS Champion host Manitoba Bisons.

This season, the Pronghorns have an even goal differenti­al, scoring 10 goals, while also allowing 10 goals against.

Lindsay Amatto’s game-winning goal last Saturday was her team-leading fourth goal of the season and puts her tied for seventh in the conference.

Fifth-year Pronghorns Kayla Blacquiere and Nikki Furukawa each have scored two goals this season.

The Pronghorns are on the road next weekend when they face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack and UBCO Heat.
