Hurricanes back home tonight

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will ice one more home game before Christmas tonight.

The Hurricanes entertain the Edmonton Oil Kings in Western Hockey League action tonight at the Enmax Centre.

In a rematch of last Sunday’s game in which the Hurricanes earned a 7-2 win over the Oil Kings in Edmonton, the game will be the last at Enmax Centre until Dec. 29 as the Canes hit the road for an eastern trip next week.

The Hurricanes come into tonight’s game having moved one game above .500 (14-13-1-0) thanks to a 4-0 shutout win over the Red Deer Rebels Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre, the team’s third win in a row. Lethbridge has won seven of their past eight games.

Canes defenceman Ty Prefontaine has turned into an offensive defenceman of late, scoring the team’s second goal Wednesday after adding his first two goals of the season in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Victoria Royals at the Enmax Centre.

Wednesday’s win was Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner’s third shutout of the season, tying him for second in the league with Logan Flodell of the Swift Current Broncos.

Offensively, the Oil Kings are led by Trey Fix-Wolansky’s 10 goals and 30 points in 28 games. David Kock leads Edmonton with 12 goals in 28 games.

The Oil Kings come into tonight’s game having won one of their last 10 and are last in the Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes look to build on the hold on second place in the Central Division and close ground on the Central Division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers (17-11-1-0), trailing the Tigers by six points.

After tonight’s game, the Hurricanes go on a pre-Christmas, four-game eastern run starting Tuesday Saskatoon before moving on to Prince Albert Wednesday, Brandon Friday and Regina Saturday.

The Hurricanes return to action after Christmas Dec. 27 in Medicine Hat before the Tigers pay a visit to the Enmax Centre Dec. 29.
