Rattlers ringette team strikes gold in Ontario

The Lethbridge Rattlers U16 ringette team took a lengthy road trip and struck gold in the process.

The Rattlers headed east to Mississaug­a, Ont. last weekend to play in the Mississaug­a Ringette Tournament and brought home a championsh­ip title thanks to a 6-1 win over the host team.

In their first game, the Rattlers blanked Kitchener 7-0 as Ruthie Bohnec scored twice for Lethbridge and Lorelei Koch, Emily Miller, Brynn Stevenson, Brooklyn Bittman and Madison Andres added one each. Brooke Robinson had three assists and Bohnec and Lisa Beswitheri­ck added one.

Teyha Trekofski earned the shutout for the Rattlers.

The Rattlers posted another shutout win in their second game of the weekend with a 9-0 victory over Nova Central.

Emily Miller and Koch paced Lethbridge with three goals each. Mikayla Miller, Kiarra Robinson and Bohnec added singles.

Trey Blair earned the win and the shutout in goal.

Lethbridge improved to 3-0 with a 4-1 win over Mississaug­a as Emily Miller, Mikayla Miller, Stevenson and Koch scored for the Rattlers.

In their third game, the Rattlers faced the home team, and won 4-1. Scoring were Emily Miller, Mikayla Miller, Stevenson and Koch scored for Lethbridge. Brooke Robinson added two assists while Koch and Madison Borbely had one each.

In the gold medal game, Koch and Stevenson led the Rattlers with two goals each, while Beswitheri­ck and Borbely scored once each.

Robinson added two helpers. Emma Zgurski, Stevenson, Emily Miller and Bohnec each added one.

In addition to their gold medal, the Rattlers had a chance to meet and talk with the senior members of Team Canada.

As well, the Rattlers also met and had their picture taken with Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby and some of his Penguins teammates when the Penguins presented the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Stanley Cup ring.
