Three gold medals for LFC at December Cup

The Lethbridge Football Club earned three gold medals on their home turf as the 12th annual Boys December Cup hit the indoor pitch at the Servus Sports Centre Friday through Sunday.

In the U12 Boys Tier II division, the Lethbridge FC (Indzeoski) struck gold, as did the Lethbridge FC in the U15 Boys Tier II category.

In the U15 Boys Tier III division, the LFC also mined a gold medal.

The Lethbridge FC (McIntyre) also came away with a medal, taking the silver in the U12 Boys Tier II division.

In U12 Boys Tier II play, the LFC Indzeoski started the weekend with a 61 win over LFC (Twizell) and improved to 2-0 with a 5-0 win over Medicine Hat RASC.

The LFC Indzeoski finished Saturday’s play with a 5-3 win over the Calgary SWU Selects to move to 3-0 on the weekend.

In their final game on Sunday, the LFC Indzeoski defeated LFC McIntyre 8-3 to cap off the 4-0 weekend.

LFC McIntyre was 2-2 and started off with a 5-3 win over Medicine Hat RASC.

They dropped to 1-1 with a 3-1 loss to the Calgary SWU Selects, but bounced back in their third game thanks to a 5-4 decision over LFC Twizell.

LFC Twizell was 1-2-1 during the weekend.

They opened with the 6-1 loss to LFC Indzeoski before dropping a close 5-4 decision to LFC McIntyre.

But LFC Twizell earned their first win of the tournament in their last game Saturday courtesy a 6-1 victory over Medicine Hat RASC.

The locals finished with a 2-2 draw against the Calgary SWU Selects on Sunday.

In the U12 Boys Tier III division, the LFC Rocca and LFC Wiebe were the local representa­tives.

LFC Rocca was 1-2, losing 5-4 to the eventual gold medallist Sherwood Park Phoenix and 5-0 to the Calgary WHU Revolution.

On Sunday, LFC Rocca downed their fellow LFC squad Wiebe 6-1.

LFC Wiebe began with a 5-2 loss to Medicine Hat RASC and were defeated 7-2 by the Calgary SWU Rapids.

The Calgary Westhills United Revolution took home the silver and the SWU Rapids were the bronze medal winners.

The LFC turned in another gold medal performanc­e in the U15 Boys Tier 2 division as the LFC were a perfect 4-0.

Lethbridge started with a 7-2 win over Medicine Hat RASC and moved to 2-0 with a 5-0 blanking of the Calgary Foothills Prospects.

The LFC downed the Prospects 6-1 in the rematch Sunday and defeated the Medicine Hat RASC a second time — 50 — in the final game Sunday to clinch the gold.

In the U15 Boys Tier III division, the LFC also struck gold thanks to a 3-0-1 weekend.

That began with a 5-0 win over the Coaldale Thunder Friday before battling to a 2-2 draw with the Calgary MUSC Saints Saturday.

The LFC then downed the Medicine Hat RASC 6-1 and completed the weekend with a 5-0 shutout win over Calgary Eastside Memorial.

After losing their first game to the LFC, the Thunder were topped 5-2 by Eastside Memorial and lost 7-2 to Medicine Hat RASC.

On Sunday, the Thunder were defeated 10-5 by the MUSC Saints, who were this year’s silver medallists.
