Lightning dominate in victory

The Lethbridge Lightning scored a decisive home win during Ranchland Hockey League action Friday night.

In a victory that included a penalty shot, the Lightning defeated the Piikani Regulators 9-1 to improve to 5-4 on the season.

James Price scored on a penalty shot 7:13 into the third and added two more goals for a hat trick performanc­e as the Lightning keep a hold on third place in the league, two points behind the 6-1 Nanton Palominos and four points back of the league-leading Siksika Buffaloes (7-2).

Ben Bohle, Jake Harrison, Kevin Mayowski, Ashton Zintel, Nic Bohle and Cam Hurt rounded out the scoring for the Lightning.

Price added an assist for a four-point evening and Ben Bohle had two assists for three points.

Lightning assistant captain Cody Berube added three helpers in the winning cause and Shane Eyre chipped in with two assists.

Mayowski, Nic Bohle and Hurt each had an assist for two points.

Cole Schafer made 30 saves in the win.

With the holiday season underway, a large number of toys were collected at Friday night’s game for the Salvation Army and Santa’s Anonymous.

The Lightning round out the 2017 portion of their schedule this weekend. They host the Nanton Palominos Friday night at 8:30 p.m. and the Fort Macleod Mustangs Saturday, also at 8:30 p.m.

Both games are at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
