LCI wins Green and Gold opener

Host LCI Clippers opened their Green and Gold Basketball Tournament on a winning note Friday, upending George McDougall of Airdrie 92-23.

Berkley Heggie led the Clippers with 19 points while Abbie Hall added 18. Also reaching double figures were Krista Nelson and Maitlynn Miller with 11 and 10 points respective­ly.

Lizzy Gaudette replied with nine for McDougall and Hanna Haden added eight.

In other action, the Raymond Comets edged Calgary Bishop Carroll 75-73 as Kelby Terry hit for 18 points, followed by Ivy Jensen and Halli Baker with 12 apiece and Emma Greep with 10.

Yvonne Ejim led all scorers with 34 points in a losing cause while Julia Summers added 19.

Magrath Pandas advanced to the semis with a 75-59 win over St. Alberta Catholic as Lauren Payne led the way with 21 points while Adi Strong and Lucy Wilde added 13 apiece. Montana Berezay chipped in with 10.

Tea DeMong and Mimi Sigue replied with 16 apiece for St. Albert.

Calgary Western Canada topped Medicine Hat Kwahommies 74-63 as Emily Kelly scored 16 points and Claire Cossarini added 12.

In today’s semifinals, LCI plays Western Canada at 11 a.m. while Raymond meets Magrath at 1 p.m. On the consolatio­n side, George McDougall plays Medicine Hat at 9 a.m. while Bishop Carroll and St. Albert tangle at 9 a.m. across the street at Catholic Central.

The consolatio­n final is set for 3 p.m. with the third-place game at 5 p.m. and championsh­ip game at 7 p.m.
