Library can help get the most out of winter

- Jonathan Jarvie

Winter can be dreary for even the most optimistic amongst us. The weather is cold, the days are short, and, let’s be honest, do any of us really enjoy shovelling snow? While there’s not much we can do about any of these things, the Lethbridge Public Library can make your winter days a whole lot more enjoyable.

For those of us who like getting outside and being active during the winter months, the library has the perfect solution for adventuring out into the snow: snowshoes! Available at both the Main Branch and The Crossings Branch, as well as the Bookmobile, Snowshoe Adventure Kits are ready for pickup in a variety of sizes. Each kit contains a pair of snowshoes (small, medium or large), as well as a set of poles, and are available for checkouts of up to three weeks.

While some of us enjoy getting out and being active, others are bothered by winter’s short days. When you’re stuck working all day, it’s hard to get the proper amount of sunlight to keep healthy. If this sounds like you, check out one of our Litebook Advantages. These light therapy devices are great for combating fatigue and low energy, and have been proven to help those suffering from the winter blues.

Perhaps one of best ways of coping with winter, and my personal favourite, is curling up in a comfortable chair in front of a fireplace with a good book. While not everybody has a fireplace, The Crossings Branch has you covered with their large fireplace and seating area. Stop by anytime to enjoy a good book and meet some new friends.

So remember, no matter how icy and dark the winter gets, a visit to the library can brighten your day.
