Land-use amendments on agenda

- J.W. Schnarr LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The fate of a large sum of found money and a number of land-use amendments for residential development projects will be up for discussion during today’s City Council meeting.

Council may look at what to do with a large amount of foreign cash which was found last year in the Mission Thrift Store but which has remained unclaimed in spite of efforts by police to locate the owner.

Council may also hear from Coun. Mark Campbell for an update on the Open and Effective Government Committee.

An information session is planned for today at 2:30 p.m. According to the agenda, the session will involve council priorities on Community Issues Committee meetings.

Four public hearings are planned for land-use amendments for different projects as well, including an amendment to allow a property owner at 4025 43 Street South to subdivide the property. A similar amendment will be part of another public hearing for 4220 43 Street South. Another public hearing will involve an amendment to allow for the development of secondary suites and single detached homes for a property located near 155 Metis Trail West, while the fourth will be for an amendment to allow the development of two-unit dwellings and secondary suites for several properties on 30 Street West and Miners Chase West.

Today’s regular meeting of City Council takes place in council chambers in City Hall and begins at 1 p.m. Council meetings are open to the public.
