Radio stations team up to help CRH Foundation
The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation launched its ninth annual Care from the Heart Radio-a-thon on Thursday with the help of local radio stations.
Six local radio stations — B93.3 FM, 94.1 CJOC, Country 95.5 FM, 98.1 The Bridge, 106.7 Rock and KISS 107.7 — took part in the Care from the Heart Day Radio-a-thon, holding live broadcasts between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. to highlight the impact that money raised through the CRHF has helped the community.
The goal of this year’s event is to raise $230,000. Since its inception, the Care from the Heart Day Radio-a-thon has raised just over $1.73 million.
Shonna Lamb, development co-ordinator with the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, said the support of the community and generosity makes organizers confident they could hit or come close to their goal.
“We’ve got some strong supporters in the community who have been with this campaign for a number of years,” she said.
CRHF has handed out more than $2 million in support of state-of-the-art health-care equipment, programs and projects in the past year.
“It’s really wide and diversely spread throughout the community and the hospital,” said Lamb.
One of the priorities of this Care from the Heart Day is the renovation and redevelopment of the Mental Health area at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Phase 1 is complete. Phase 2 is set to begin right away.
“We’ve committed a sizable amount of funds to help support renovations in the mental health facilities taking place at the hospital,” said Lamb.
“We’re honoured to be helping move this project forward, and transition and update it. The last time it was touched was 1988, so there is work there we can help with in that regard.”
Donations and the resulting equipment and programs funded support the entire community.
“The hospital is an institution that affects everyone in the community,” Lamb said. “By being able to fund this equipment and help promote programs that further staff education, aid in the quality of care that’s being offered in our community.
“When we are able to increase the quality of care being offered at home, and have equipment people can receive treatment here versus travelling for, we see huge benefit in that. We’re honoured to help.”
