Kodiak men win third straight

TEAMS PLAY ST. MARY’S TONIGHT AT HOME

A strong second half earned the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball team a crucial win and extended their winning streak.

The Kodiaks downed the St. Mary’s Lighting 73-66 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Friday night.

The win is the Kodiaks third in a row and improves them to 10-8 on the season, moving them into a tie with the Ambrose Lions (10-9) for the fourth-and-final playoff spot in the South despite having an automatic berth as this year’s ACAC hosts.

On Friday, the Kodiaks erased a 37-30 deficit at the half, outscoring the Lighting 24-12 in the third quarter.

Coming in off the bench, Jackson Kasko led the Kodiaks with19 points. Cory Richardson and Cole Crick had 10 points each.

Keanu Funa had seven rebounds and Michael Clemons added eight assists.

In the women’s game, the Kodiaks were defeated 79-52 and are 6-12 on the season.

Amy Arbon had 14 points for Lethbridge and Courtney Kwasney and Shayna Mathison had eight each. Arbon also had 13 rebounds. The teams are back in Lethbridge tonight for the rematch at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

The women’s game is at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
