Kodiaks sweep Broncos in ACAC volleyball

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team kept themselves in a tight race for a playoff spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference South Division.

The Kodiaks defeated the Olds Broncos 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 29-27) during ACAC action Friday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

The win improves the Kodiaks to 15-8 and puts them in a tie for second place in the South Division with the Briercrest Clippers and two points up on the Red Deer Kings (14-9) with one game remaining in the regular season.

Dax Whitehead paced the Kodiaks with 12 kills and five digs. Carter Hansen had six kills and Tony Albizzati and Marcus Biesheuvel each had three digs.

In the women’s game, having clinched their playoff berth the weekend before, the Kodiaks defeated the winless Olds Broncos 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 27-25).

With win puts the Kodiaks at 13-10 and two points behind the 14-9 Ambrose Lions.

Laura Serafini led the Kodiaks women Friday night with 14 kills, while Sianna Cherweniuk added eight and put up five digs.

Harper Elwood had six digs and Corissa Mildenberg­er had four service aces and five digs.

The teams complete their regular season schedules today against the Broncos at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

The women’s game is at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
