LCI Rams open Green and Gold with victory

Host LCI Rams opened their Green and Gold Basketball Tournament with a victory on Friday, defeating Vanier Collegiate Vikings of Moose Jaw 106-60.

Rams had four players score in double figures, led by John Evans with 21 points and Zach Jacobs with 19. Parks Hirsche and Isaiah Bagnah added 12 and 10 points respective­ly.

Elijah Buachle replied with 15 points for Vanier and Philip O’Reilly added 10.

Rams advance to today’s 11 a.m. semifinal against Calgary Western Canada, who defeated the Chinook Coyotes 88-52.

Aidan Smith scored 16 points to lead Western Canada and Jack Wuotila added 14.

Liam Doyle replied with 14 for the Coyotes while Ty Wevers and Karson Valgardson added 11 each.

In other action, Cardston Cougars upended Lacombe Composite Rams 97-44 as Ty Lewis hit for 19 points and Jayce Nelson added 18. Adyn Card chipped in with 11 points while Bryn Nelson and Tristan Infanti added 10 each. Richard Jans led the Lacombe with nine points. Cardston will play Calgary Sir Winston Churchill in the other semi today at 1 p.m. after the Bulldogs defeated Edmonton Holy Trinity Trojans 99-46.

Pelumi Ajayi led the Bulldogs with 25 points and Waleed Sharif and Julian Luai added 19 and 17 respective­ly.

John Bucog led the Trojans with 12 points and Austin Torres added 10.

Action continues today with the consolatio­n semifinals at 9 a.m. at LCI and Catholic Central East. The consolatio­n final is set for 3 p.m.

The third-place game follows at 5 p.m. with the championsh­ip game at 7 p.m.
