Hurricanes return to action tonight when they host the Prince Albert Raiders

The Lethbridge Hurricanes completed the hat trick as far as the Western Hockey League Player of the Week award is concerned.

On Tuesday, the WHL announced Canes forward Jordy Bellerive had been named the WHL Player of the Week, making the captain the third Hurricane this season to win the award following Calen Addison and Dylan Cozens.

Bellerive, the Hurricanes second-overall pick in the 2014 WHL bantam draft who signed an entry level deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins last summer, posted five goals and 10 points in five games to go along with a plus-six rating.

Those totals give Bellerive 42 goals and 83 points in 58 games this season as the Hurricanes get ready for their first of three consecutive home games, starting tonight at 7 p.m. when the Prince Albert Raiders visit the Enmax Centre.

In a 5-2 win against the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook Feb. 12, Bellerive had a goal and two assists and added another assist the next night at home in a 6-3 loss to the Tri-City Americans.

He helped the Hurricanes rebound Friday in a 5-4 win over the Saskatoon Blades, scoring 18 seconds into the game and adding an assist.

In the first of a home-and-home tilt with the Ice, Bellerive scored two goals — including the game-winner — in a 5-2 win at the Enmax Centre and then notched another goal and an assist Sunday afternoon in Cranbrook in a 4-1 Lethbridge win.

In addition to 16 power-play goals and six game-winning goals, Bellerive is sixth in the league in goals, eighth in overall points and third in power-play goals.

The Canes (29-24-6-0) continue their chase for first in the Central Division when they host the Raiders (23-25-9-2) tonight.

Lethbridge trails the Medicine Hat Tigers (29-24-7-0) by one point. The Canes have one game in hand and are 7-3-0-0 in their past 10 games.

Since arriving in Lethbridge at the trade deadline from the Vancouver Giants, overage forward Brad Morrison has fit in nicely in his new surroundings.

The forward from Prince George has 12 goals and 31 points in 19 games with the Canes since early January.

He had 35 points in 42 games in Vancouver.

The Raiders trail the Saskatoon Blades by eight points for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Lethbridge’s Kody McDonald will lace up in his hometown tonight with the Raiders. Since being traded from the Prince George Cougars earlier this season, the 19-year-old centre has 10 goals and 19 points in 20 games in Prince Albert.

He is third on the team in scoring with 55 points in 55 games.

The Hurricanes are back home Friday when the Brandon Wheat Kings come to the Enmax Centre at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, the league-leading Moose Jaw Warriors are in town at 7 p.m.
