Man facing sex charges in two courts
A 49-year-old Raymond man accused of decades-old sex offences is dealing with charges in both adult and youth court.
The accused, who can’t be identified under a court-ordered publication ban, faces in adult court one charge each of sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching relating to alleged incidents 30 years ago. He also faces numerous similar charges in youth court.
The case was in both courtrooms Wednesday but simply adjourned to March 14. An agent for the accused’s lawyer told the judge in adult court that defence is considering a resolution proposal from the Crown. Resolution discussions between the Crown and defence on the youth charges continue, as well.
In January, Picture Butte RCMP charged the accused with sexual interference following an investigation into allegations of sexual assaults in the 1980s and 1990s involving women.
In September 2016, RCMP were contacted by a woman who said she had been sexually abused as a child by a man known to her. The Picture Butte RCMP began an investigation into the allegations and three additional women came forward to report they had been similarily assaulted.
Following his arrest, the man was released on a recognizance with conditions prohibiting him from contacting persons under 18.
