Clippers and Pandas post victories

The LCI Clippers and Magrath Pandas each earned a road win during Southern Alberta High School Basketball League play Wednesday night.

The Clippers defeated the Chinook Coyotes 84-43, while the Pandas headed to Catholic Central and posted a 67-43 win over the Cougars.

With the win, the Pandas are 10-3 and move into a tie with the Raymond Comets (10-2) for first place in the SAHSBL.

LCI’s win moves them to 9-3 and keeps their hold on third place.

At Catholic Central, Montana Berezay paced the Pandas with 18 points and Adi Strong added 16. Ellie Wilde hit for 10 points for Magrath.

For the Cougars, Hailey Schneider led the way with eight points.

The Pandas won the junior varsity game 51-46 as Lucy Wilde scored 13 points for Magrath. Tiffany Winchester and Hannah Barfuss each added 10 points.

Jordan Goruk had 13-point game for Catholic Central and Kyra Collier chipped in with 12.

In the Clippers win at Chinook, Maitlynn Miller struck for 23 points for LCI and Berkley Heggie had 18.

For the Coyotes, Mackenzie Harms was the leading point getter with 16 and Charlize Baron scored 10.

In other league play Wednesday, the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels and the Medicine Hat Kwahommies varsity and juinor varsity duelled to a pair of close games in Taber

In the varsity game, the Rebels posted a close 81-79 win to improve to 5-6, while the junior varsity game went to overtime before the Kwahommies earned a 64-62 decision.

In the varsity game, the Rebels led 41-36 at halftime en route to the win.

Kitawna Sparks topped the 20-point mark for W.R. Myers with 26 points. Sophie Simek and Lauren Steed each hit for 16 for Taber.

Hailee Parker was the top Kwahommies scorer with 26 points, while Rhiannon Ware and Kyler Varga each had 13.

In the junior varsity game, Halle Johnson led the Rebels with 20 points. Anika Steed and Vicky Shimbashi scored 14 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Kenny King had 14 points for Medicine Hat.

In junior varsity girls play Wednesday, the Raymond Comets defeated the Winston Churchill Griffins 98-31.

Six Comets hit double digits, led by Talani Iwaasa’s 16 points and Rees Armener’s 13.

Haely Lamontagne and Ashlee Williams each chipped in with 12 points and Cassidy Quinton and Taylor Graves had 11.

For the Griffins, Grace Hatch scored 13 points.

Girls league continues tonight with one game on the schedule.

The Cardston Cougars (7-4) are in Taber to take on the Rebels (4-7).

Game time is 6 p.m. for the junior varsity game and 8 p.m. for the varsity game.
