‘Hurricane’ blows onto the big screen

- Leonard Binning

A couple of interesting movies make their debut this weekend. “The Hurricane Heist” can be best described as a cheesy disaster movie (think of last year’s “Geostorm”) with a twist! With an impending hurricane bearing down on the area, what better time to stage a robbery of gigantic proportions?

This original effort is from director Rob Cohen (creator of “The Fast and the Furious” franchise) and is rated PG with a Violence warning. It is 102 minutes long and will screen daily at 1:15 and 7:10 p.m.

The other film we proudly offer for the first time in our area is the acclaimed singa-long version of “The Greatest Showman.” If you love the music as much as the movie, and you are aspiring to sing alongside Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron — this may well be your chance to shine! Let’s see just how much talent is hidden within ✦our

charming city! It is of course, still rated PG with a running time of 105 minutes and will show daily at 4:05 p.m. Don’t be shy — come on out and “let it go!”

The official site for “The Hurricane Heist” states the following: “Under the threat of a hurricane, opportunistic criminals infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility to steal $600 million for the ultimate heist. When the hurricane blows up into a lethal Category 5 storm and their well-made plans go awry, they find themselves needing a vault code known only by one Treasury agent (Maggie Grace), a need that turns murderous. But the Treasury agent has picked up an unlikely ally, a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) terrified of hurricanes but determined to save his estranged brother kidnapped by the thieves. He uses his knowledge of the storm as a weapon to win in this non-stop action thriller ride charged with adrenaline throughout.”

And from Twentieth Century Fox, we are told that “the world is singing along with the most entertaining movie of the year and now you can, too. This weekend, attend a special sing-along screening of “The Greatest Showman,” the Golden Globe winner for Best Original Song. Join in at select theatres starting this Friday. Tickets on sale now.”

Lots on the big screen to keep you occupied this Easter weekend, and plenty to keep the kids busy while out of school. See you at the movie theatre!
