MOVE BRINGS THREE PROGRAMS TOGETHER

- J.W. Schnarr LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Justice has a new home. The Alberta Health Services Justice Program has relocated to the Provincial Building.

Last week, AHS held an open house for an AHS South Zone celebration bringing three programs together at one site under the umbrella of the Addiction and Mental Health’s Justice Program.

The Lethbridge Mental Health Diversion Program, Lethbridge Family Violence Treatment Services and the Lethbridge Corrections Transition Team are all programs that fall under the Justice Program.

The Mental Health Diversion Program is voluntary for those who have been charged with lessserious criminal offences, are 18 or older, and suffer from a mental disorder or have a substanceabuse issue.

The program serves the client and the community by helping the individual improve decisionmaking skills through counselling and other forms of support, reducing the likelihood of further contact with the justice system.

Family Violence Treatment Services offer assessment and professional counselling services for people who have been abusive in their intimate partner relationships.

Treatment is designed to address the specific needs of each person. An addictions counsellor is available for specialized support, if needed.

The Corrections Transitions Team serves to support eligible individuals when they are released from custody.

The team assists with developing a release plan while the person is still incarcerated to assist them in transitioning back to the community.

CTT then continues to provides support after the person is released.
