• The Probus Club of Lethbridge will meet at Country Kitchen, Lower Level, April 18. Guest speaker is Dr. Gerlinde Metz from the University of Lethbridge Neuroscien­ce Department. Her research program focuses on the influence of experience and environmen­t on brain plasticity and behaviour and much more. 9:30 a.m. social time is followed by a short meeting at 9:45 a.m. There is a $5 charge at the door; guests are always welcome.

• Galt Museum’s Wednesdays at the Galt lecture program for adults and seniors continues April 18 from 2-3 p.m., featuring “Sports Cards & Memorabili­a.” Grant Gatto of Pirates Cove Collectibl­es will speak about sports cards along with collectibl­e memorabili­a from sports, movies and TV. Admission fees apply; free to annual pass holders.

• Seasons Lethbridge, 1730 10 Ave. S., will hold a jam session April 18 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.

• Recreation­al wheelchair basketball practices are held every Wednesday from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Lethbridge YMCA, 515 Stafford Drive S. Players of all abilities are welcome, disabiliti­es or not. No experience is required.

• The Alberta Genealogic­al Society, Lethbridge Branch will hold its monthly meeting April 19 at 7 p.m. at Room 128, 909 3 Ave. N. Everyone is welcome. The presenter will be Jim Benedict, Guild of One Name Studies, Regional Representa­tive, from Calgary, who will speak about the surname research, and the benefits of Guild membership. • The Southern Alberta Branch of the National Associatio­n of Federal Retirees (NAFR/FSNA) will hold an Annual General Meeting April 19 at Country Kitchen Catering (below The Keg restaurant, 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive S. Venue is wheelchair accessible. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner (salad, roast beef and dessert) served at 5:30 p.m. Cost $22 per person. Guest speaker will be Lori Penner, grief counsellor and support co-ordinator at Nord-Bridge Senior Centre. Members of the associatio­n who wish to attend are asked to phone 403-328-0801 and leave their name and the number of persons attending. Any ex-federal employee who may be interested in joining the associatio­n is most welcome.

• McKillop United Church, 2329 15 Ave. S., will host two National Film Board films from the Standing Alone Trilogy on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lane Lounge. The two films feature Blackfoot Elder Pete Standing Alone, filmed on the Blood Reserve. In “Circle of the Sun” (1960), a young Blackfoot man looks for his place in the world and the Sun Dance is shown on film for the first time. “Standing Alone” (1980) focuses on Standing Alone's transforma­tion into a spiritual elder and community leader.

• Trinity United Church in Picture Butte will host a concert, “An Evening of Brass,” featuring University of Lethbridge students and faculty, April 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased in advance or at the door. • Lethbridge Public Library will host the “Up in Smoke” Speaker Series April 19 and April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Theatre Gallery at the Main Branch. April 19 will feature “Cannabis and the Law” with guest speaker Ethan Bayne, executive director of Strategy & Planning from the Alberta Cannabis Secretaria­t; April 26 will feature “Cannabis and Youth” with guest speakers Christ Windle, health promotion facilitato­r with AHS Addiction and Mental Health and Courtney Barks, adolescent addictions counsellor.

• Al-Anon, a group for those facing problems caused by someone else’s drinking, meets

• Blankets for Canada Lethbridge meets Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon at the west entrance of Southminst­er United Church (11 Street and 4 Avenue). We are in need of more volunteers. Donations of yarn or financial donations are greatly appreciate­d, also eight- or nine-inch squares as well as strips 70 inches long, knitted or crocheted. • The Coaldale United Church Thrift Shop (2022 18 St.) is open Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as a service to the community. Most clothing and shoes at $2. Household items very reasonably priced — Christmas decoration­s, bedding, tablecloth­s, curtains, kitchen items, books, fine china, jewelry and more. Cash only. Come and browse.

• Family Centre presents Me and My Family, a drop-in program designed for working parents to spend time playing and connecting with their children before heading home for the evening. For all families with children ages 0-8 years. Explore a wide range of activities that will encourage children’s physical activity, imaginatio­n and creativity. Takes place Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m., April 12-June 28 at Family Centre, Downtown, #225, 200 4 Ave. S. (in Lethbridge Centre).

• An Ethnic Food Fair will be held April 20 at 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army Community Church of Lethbridge, 1302 4 Ave. S. Featuring 10 nationalit­ies. Tickets at the door: $5 for 10 samples of food, $10 for 20 samples. Free coffee, tea and juice. A craft table will also be available. Proceeds go to Women’s Ministry Missions. Everyone welcome. • The Lethbridge Christian Men’s Choir, along with the Lethbridge Christian Women’s Choir will hold a Spring Concert, “Holy is the Lord,” April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Reformed Church, 1100 40 Ave. N. The concert brings praise to God in song, as both groups perform individual numbers, with the highlight being mass singing numbers with both groups. • The Watoto Children’s Choir will perform April 20 at 7 p.m. at Lethbridge First Baptist Church, 1614 5 Ave. S., as part of their “Signs & Wonders” tour. The choir, whose members are orphans and other vulnerable children, present new music from Watoto Church in Uganda. Come for a fun and family-friendly musical event. • A book signing featuring Donna Clewes, the author of “Safe Behind the Little Waterfall: Finding Peace and Freedom Through the Journey of Healing,” will take place April 20 from 15:30 p.m. and April 21 from 1-5:30 p.m. at Chapters in Park Place.
