Winston Churchill High School added three familiar faces to their Hall of Fame wall on Friday. Among the inductees this year was Judy Trinh, Devon May and Bryce Salvador.

Two of the three were able to take in this year’s inductions but former NHL player Salvador was unable to attend.

Trinh, an award-winning CBC reporter, said she always had a gut feeling her name would one day end up in the school’s Hall of Fame.

“The very first year they started the Hall of Fame I was a student here, and at that age I was like ‘one day I’m going to be on that wall,’” said Trinh.

Trinh graduated from WCHS in 1992 and received a Gemini Award in 2010 for best breaking news report.

She credits the education and support she had from her teachers and peers for part of her success.

“My English teachers were fantastic,” said Trinh. “They never doubted my ability to write and that made me know I would have a professional career in writing in some way because they believed in me.”

Trinh added she was taken back when she got the message saying she was going to be inducted.

“I was surprised,” said Trinh. “I definitely didn’t expect it but it was a great honour for me and its very emotional.”

May graduated from WCHS one year after Trinh, staying true to his roots and attended the University of Lethbridge later on.

He achieved his bachelor of management in finance degree before making a switch to become a pilot.

May is now the senior vice-president, finance, with American Airlines in Dallas/Fort Worth.

He says it might not have been possible without the support and advantages he received from WCHS.

“It’s a foundation that you’re able to build off of,” said May. “Churchill gave me that on the education side, but more importantly in terms of leadership and dedication and that’s what I take to my job every day.”

Just like Trinh, May was shocked when news broke of him being among the three inductees.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said May. “I’m so excited to be a part of it and I’m honoured and humbled it’s a great school.”

Despite Salvador not being able to make this induction, WCHS is still working with him to have him make an appearance at the school in the fall of this year.
