It’s hard to believe Casa has been operating five years downtown already, says Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge executive director Suzanne Lint.

“It’s pretty exciting, we’re sort of at this juncture in our history,” she confirms. “The time has gone by extremely quickly from the day we opened five years ago until today. It’s an amazing building. Well-loved and respected by many people in our community, extremely wellused and very busy. Our community support has been phenomenal, and the City’s courage in building this type of facility is pretty remarkable.”

Casa celebrated its fifth anniversary Saturday with a complementary barbecue, free entertainment and, of course, with opportunities to do a little art. Hundreds of Lethbridge residents turned out to toast Casa throughout the day, and to express their support for the arts in the community.

Lint says the event was not only about celebrating the past and present, but also about turning an eye toward the future.

“When you have a facility like Casa, your downtown core is activated and busy,” she says. “And people are coming into the core, not just during business hours, but also in the evening. It supports our local restaurants and pubs to have a building like this. And, hopefully, in the not too distant future we’ll have a performing arts centre which will complement this creative learning space with a performance space.”
