Achange of venue has been announced for the Nobuki Takamen concert planned for Sunday. The Jazz In The Garden: Nobuki Takamen Trio concert scheduled for Sunday at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is being moved to the Galt Museum and Archives.

With a current weather forecast of showers at that time, garden management made the decision to change venues in order to ensure guests stay warm and dry, while providing a view of the coulees and river valley.

A mainstay of the New York jazz scene, Nobuki has toured with his group in North America and Europe, performing at some of the best international jazz festivals and clubs, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, Blue Note NY, Iridium Jazz Club, Blues Alley, and Smalls Jazz Club. He has also toured annually throughout Japan since 2004.

Guitarist/composer Nobuki Takamen was born in Hiroshima, Japan.

Jazz historian Scott Yanow describes him as “an excellent improviser in his own bopinspired style.”

Plans are in place for the scheduled reception for Mr. Kobayashi, Consulate General of Japan in Calgary, and Mrs. Kobayashi, in their first visit to Lethbridge since his arrival in the position in February.

This year marks 90 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Canada.

The reception at the Garden is planned for 5:30 p.m. Dignitaries will depart for the Nobuki Takamen, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tickets are still available for the Nobuki Takamen Trio concert and can be purchased either by calling the Garden at 403-328-3511 or visiting
