SouthGrow manager confident of economic future

- Ryan Dahlman

When you talk to SouthGrow manager Peter Casurella, he is confident of the future of the economic growth of southwest Alberta.

It is that same confidence and consensus building he wants to convey and foster as SouthGrow will be hosting its annual general meeting on Thursday at Lethbridge's Coast Hotel and Conference Centre.

SouthGrow describes it itself as “an economic development alliance of twenty-four south central Alberta communities committed to working together to achieve prosperity for the region. Representing more than 160,000 people, SouthGrow is committed to assisting communities, organizations, businesses and people in the region to further their economic development goals and to maintain the high quality of life.”

Casurella is positive that there will be representation from the 24 communities within SouthGrow’s coverage area, which includes Lethbridge County, M.D. of Taber, M.D. of Warner, Cardston County and Vulcan County.

“(In the past) it is mostly councillors, CEOs that are the representatives,” explains Casurella. “There is a lot of optimism out there. It’s good to get everybody together and there is a sense of opportunity.” Casurella notes in the southwest the optimism is there because there is new business to be had. Those in the southwest are ambitious to go after those chances.

Dinner will be supplied and friends of the organization are welcome.
