Kodiaks unveil new schedule

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks are set to head into the 2018-19 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.

On Wedneday, the Kodiaks unvieled the upcoming schedule for its soccer, cross country, volleyball and basketball teams.

The ACAC regular season begins as the Kodiaks women’s and men’s soccer teams host the SAIT Trojans Sept. 8.

The Kodiaks basketball team caps off the ACAC regular season when they head to Olds Feb. 23 to take on the Broncos.

In soccer, the schedule expands to 12 games from 10, while the Kodiaks cross country running team hosts its first Grand Prix race since 2015 Sept. 22 at Nicholas Sheran Park.

The first indoor track grand prix will take place Jan. 26 in Edmonton, hosted by MacEwan University. The futsal season will begin with tournament­s in early 2018 before the ACAC championsh­ips March 15-17.

The Kodiaks men’s and women’s volleyball teams begin their ACAC season on the road on Oct. 12 before hosting their home-opener Oct. 19 against the SAIT Trojans.

SAIT are the defending ACAC men’s champions, while the Kodiaks women will host the South Division champion Briercrest Clippers Nov. 2-3.

The volleyball teams will also play a trio of Thursday night games this season on Nov. 10, Jan. 10 and Jan. 31.

In basketball, the Kodiaks will will play 21 regularsea­son games, starting Oct. 13 at home against the SAIT Trojans, who are the defending ACAC champions on the men’s side.

The Kodiaks women will face the women’s champion St. Mary’s Lightning Jan. 12 at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium at the college.

The teams will also take part in the annual ACAC Make Some Noise for Mental Health initiative at the Kodiaks volleyball games Jan. 31 and the basketball games Feb. 2.

As well, the Kodiaks will once again host Junior and Senior High School Appreciati­on Night with high school students invited to attend Kodiaks games for free, complete with a free barbeque and a chance to win prizes.

Volleyball night takes place Nov. 7 and basketball night is Feb. 15.

The Kodiaks season will officially wrap up with the annual KODI Awards on Thursday, April 11.
