Palmer commits to Horns

- Greg Bobinec LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s hockey team has announced their first commitment to the team for the 2019-20 Canada West season.

Blue-liner Brooklyn Palmer brings a lot of value to the team, says head coach Michelle Janus.

“Our program is excited to bring in a player like Brooklyn,” says Janus in a release. “She’s a smart player who reads the ice well and can make good decisions with the puck on a consistent basis. Brooklyn also has the ability to play with grit in the hard areas of the rink, making her a difficult opponent to play against.”

The local product will play this season with the Lloydminister PWM Steelers in the AFHL Midget AAA league. Last season, Palmer played for the Northern Alberta X-Treme of the Canadian Sports School Hockey League. In her 19 games last year, Palmer registered one goal and three assists from her defence position.

“I’m very excited to be attending the University of Lethbridge and being part of their hockey program,” said Palmer. “It is an honour to have the opportunity to play in my hometown allowing me to still be close with my friends and family.”

Palmer was also a member of the U18 Alberta team which finished fifth at the 2017 National Women’s U18 Championships in Quebec City, Que.

The U of L Pronghorn women’s hockey team is set to hit the ice in nonconference action this Saturday night at Nicholas Sheran Areana, hosting the Olds College Broncos at 7 p.m. The Pronghorns will start their Canada West season on the road in Vancouver on Oct. 5 and 6.
