Cougars earn sweep of Kate Andrews Pride

Catholic Central Cougars blanked Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 3-0 in Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League boys’ opening action Wednesday night at CCH West.

Cougars defeated the Pride by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22.

Jens Watt had 10 kills and two blocks to pace CCH while Jack Gaehring added seven kills. Nash Shipton contribute­d 19 assists.

In junior varsity play in Taber, the W.R. Myers Rebels edged the LCI Rams 2-1 by scores of 24-26, 25-22 and 15-6.

In Magrath, the Zeniths won a hardfought five-set contest with Cardston.

The Cougars won the first two games 25-19, 25-15, before Magrath rallied for victories of 26-24, 25-18, 15-9.

In junior varsity play, Cardston earned a 25-16, 23-25, 15-11 decision.

Raymond Comets also needed five games to put away Immanuel Christian Eagles, scoring a victory of 28-26, 25-23, 17-25, 16-25, 15-7.

In the JV game, Raymond was a 2518, 25-12, 25-12 winner.

In girls’ play on Tuesday, Cardston Cougars swept the Winston Churchill Griffins.

Cougars went five sets for the win over the Griffins in senior play by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 12-25 and 15-13.

Vicki Crandal had 10 kills, three blocks and a service ace in a losing cause while Maiya Clapton added seven kills, a block and an ace. Lauren Platz contribute­d seven kills and two aces.

In junior varsity play, Cardston defeated Churchill 25-15, 25-22 and 2519.
