Kodiaks women’s cross country running team wins again

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

With the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Cross-Country Running Championship less than a month away, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s team continues to pick up speed.

The Kodiaks won their third ACAC Grand Prix at the fourth race in the circuit last weekend in Vermilion.

Dealing with some injuries and without captain Danny Robdrup, the Kodiaks men came in fifth.

On the women’s side, secondyear runner Sophia Nowicki remained undefeated this season, winning her third Grand Prix series.

Teammate Emily Spencer was fourth, while Salma Moreira — recovering from a half marathon the previous weekend — placed 11th.

Rebecca Sweeney’s strong finish rounded out the fourth scoring Kodiak member for 29 points.

Without Robdrup and with Kevin Kipchumba’s sore knee still not at full force, the Kodiaks took fifth in Vermilion.

Kodiaks Timothy Kimaiyo placed sixth and Connor Jackson was seventh, which would have been a national individual qualifier if it was the ACAC Championships.

The ACAC championship is back in Vermilion Oct. 27.

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s soccer teams faced a tough opponent to wrap up a home-andhome weekend.

The teams headed to Calgary face the undefeated SAIT Trojans in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Sunday as the Kodiak women were handed a 41 loss and the men fell 51.

Both teams are now 32-1 following key wins over the Olds Broncos Saturday afternoon at the Servus Sports Centre.

The women’s team is 33-1 and in fourth place in the ACAC South, three points back of the Broncos for the final playoff spot.

The Kodiak men are also 3-3-1 and in fourth place in the South, three points behind the Medicine Hat Rattlers.
