Kodiak men’s basketball team faces the Horns

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball team took it to the road during exhibition play last week.

As they get ready for their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season, the Kodiaks headed to Stirling Thursday for a neutral site game against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, losing 103-79.

The next night in Barnwell, the Kodiaks got a winning result as they topped the Medicine Hat Rattlers 90-85 to improve to 3-1 in preseason.

Against the Horns on Thursday, Orin Porter led the Kodiaks with 20 points, while Jackson Kasco hit for 15.

Skylar Thompsen chipped in with 12 points, Jett Stef added nine and Mike Clemons and Nick Gibb added eight each.

Zac Overwater led the Pronghorns with 28 points.

In Friday’s win over the Rattlers, Lincoln Anderson had a 29-point night. Nick Gibb, Mike Clemons and Porter had 18, 15 and 10 points, respective­ly.

“It was really nice to play in Stirling and Barnwell,” said Kodiaks head coach Ryan Heggie. “Both games were supported well and fans were treated to some pretty good preseason basketball.”

Exhibition play continues for the Kodiaks this weekend as they head to Calgary for the SAIT Tournament Friday to Sunday.

They start the weekend with a pair of games Friday as they face the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings before taking on the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n silver medallist Douglas College.

On Saturday, the Kodiaks take on the ACAC bronze medallist Concordia University College Thunder.

The Kodiaks men’s and women’s teams start the ACAC regular season Oct. 13 when they host the SAIT Trojans at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
