Sakamoto wins international award
Sakamoto named top international buyer
Ron Sakamoto has done it again.
At the International Entertainment Buyers Association’s annual honours and awards ceremony, held in Nashville Tuesday night, the local concert promoter won in the international buyer category.
Sakamoto, who also won the award in 2013, bested entrepreneurs from Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland — and two more from Canada.
“These were big, heavy hitters,” Sakamoto told The Herald in a phone interview Wednesday morning from Tennessee.
“It tells you they have a lot of respect for what I do. I’m really, really proud to bring it back to Lethbridge and Canada. What’s good is it’s your peers. It really makes you feel good.”
Sakamoto said the event Tuesday night in Nashville had nearly 1,300 people attend. The final selection in his category, for music of all genres, was based on ballots sent in by the organization’s members.
Following the recent tour involvement with Keith Urban across Canada, Sakamoto and his Gold and Gold Productions is set for its next major event: a cross-Canada tour by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
And Sakamoto hinted at another show announcement for the Enmax Centre in February. Details are to be announced soon.
He then plans to take some time off and spend it with his family.
