Hurricanes host unbeaten Raiders

No. 3 vs. No. 4 in CHL Top 10

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

After a pair of 8-4 decisions — both on the giving and receiving end — the Lethbridge Hurricanes maintain the third overall spot in the weekly Canadian Hockey League rankings.

That will be put to the test tonight when the unbeaten Prince Albert Raiders visit the Enmax Centre for Western Hockey League action at 7 p.m.

The 2-2 Canes remain the third-seeded team in the nation behind the number one-ranked Halifax Mooseheads (4-0-0-0) and the second-seeded London Knights (2-1-0-0) and will look to get back above the .500 mark when the 6-0 Raiders roll into town.

Thanks to their blazing start, Prince Albert sits right behind the Canes in the national rankings in fourth place, having cracked the CHL top-10 for the first time this season.

The Hurricanes are coming off a two-game road trip in which they defeated the Regina Pats 8-4 last Friday, but fell by the same count Saturday in Brandon against the What Kings when Brandon opened a 7-0 lead after the second period.

Hurricanes second-year forward Dylan Cozens scored one of the Hurricanes four third-period goals in Brandon and is tied for fourth in league scoring with five goals and 10 points in four games.

Canes captain Jordy Bellerive and Taylor Ross each have three goals and seven points in the first four games.

The Raiders are led by right winger Brett Leason, who is tied with Cozens in the overall scoring standings with three goals and 10 points in six games.

Left winger Cole Fonstad is second in team scoring with three goals and eight points, while Parker Kelly leads the Raiders in goals with four in five games.

Lethbridge’s Kody McDonald has one goal and four points in six games with the Raiders.

Raiders goaltender Ian Scott boasts a 5-0 record with a .944 save percentage and a 1.60 goals against average, good for fifth in the league.

The Canes are back at the Enmax Centre Saturday when they host the Saskatoon Blades at 7 p.m.

NOTES —

the Hurricanes made a move Wednesday, acquiring 2000-born forward Ty Kolle from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in the 2019 WHL bantam draft.
