City adjusts transit schedules to accommodate westside ridership

UPASS INTRODUCED IN SEPTEMBER FOR STUDENTS

- Greg Bobinec LETHBRIDGE HERALD

City of Lethbridge Transit has seen an increase in ridership on the west side of Lethbridge since the successful introduction of the new Universal Transit Pass (UPass) at the University of Lethbridge. The increased ridership has prompted changes to help meet the community demand.

Starting Tuesday, West Lethbridge route 32, going to the U of L, will be increasing in frequency during the peak morning hours. The route will run every 10 minutes between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. opposed to the every 15 minutes it currently operates. The routes will return to 30minute intervals after 9:30.

During the same morning peak hours, route 12 between the university and downtown will run on 30-minute intervals instead of the current 15 minutes.

These changes have been made on a trial basis and will be monitored closely to see if further adjustments will need to be made to ensure it runs efficiently, and is an accessible service for all transit users.

The UPass was introduced in September to be included in tuition fees for all students enrolled at the U of L.

The pass provides students with unlimited access to local transit during each term as they are registered for classes. More information on the UPass can be found online at ulsa.ca, and for full transit schedules, routes and other information is available at lethbridgetransit.ca. Follow @GBobinecHerald on Twitter
