Woman fined for breaching release conditions

Laube to have bail hearing on other charges Thursday

- Delon Shurtz LETHBRIDGE HERALD

ALethbridge woman who repeatedly breached her release conditions has been fined and will remain in custody at least until Thursday when she may have another bail hearing.

Megan Lynne Laube pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court to four counts of breaching bail conditions and one count of drug possession. She was fined $100 on each charge, but opted to serve default jail time rather than pay the fines. And since she has already spent nearly three weeks in custody waiting to deal with the charges, she has served her sentence.

Court was told the accused had been released from custody earlier this month after she and two other women, Kendall Pyne, 38, of Lethbridge, and Stephanie Rouzes, 34, of Medicine Hat, were arrested and charged with weaponrelated offences following a traffic stop near Cardston on Oct. 6.

Conditions of Laube’s release included curfew, but when police checked at her residence twice on Oct. 12 and again Oct. 16, she was not at home.

She was finally apprehended a day later when a homeowner asked police to check his basement, from which he heard voices even though he had previously evicted his tenants. Police found Laube, as well as another man with whom she is co-accused on other charges and with whom she was ordered to not have any contact. She also had a small amount of crystal meth, which breached a bail condition that she not have any drugs.

Although her sentence on the breaches is considered served, Laube remains in custody. However, she is expected to have a bail hearing when she returns to court Thursday on the Cardston charges.

Laube, 28, also faces charges in relation to thefts from a Taber-area business in September.

Taber RCMP received a report that a business in the MD of Taber had been broken into and several items stolen. The stolen items were listed for sale online three days later, and the following day RCMP officers, the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit and Lethbridge police officers, including the tactical team, converged on a residence in Lethbridge and arrested three people.

Laube is charged with drug possession, possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, careless use and storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and knowing possession of it is unauthorized, multiple counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Laube was released from custody following her arrest on the Taber charges, but she was later arrested and charged with breaching conditions. Her bail on those charges were revoked during Tuesday’s hearing.

Daniel James Chrysler, 38, and Dakota Robert Parker, 21, face similar charges in relation to the incident.
