Anderson, Guyn named top Horns

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Back-to-back shutouts has earned Alicia Anderson the University of Lethbridge Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorns Female Athlete of the Week.

Meanwhile, a strong weekend in the pool has given Pronghorns swimmer Owen Guyn the Male Athlete of the Week honour.

Anderson stopped all 52 shots she faced over two games as the Horns women’s hockey team earned a 2-0 weekend with 4-0 and 1-0 wins over the Calgary Dinos, helping Lethbridge snap a five-game losing streak.

The wins also improve the Pronghorns to 3-4-0-1 and into sixth place in the Canada West.

The two-shutout weekend also earned the fourth-year Pronghorn the Canada West Second Star of the Week.

On Friday in Calgary, Anderson made 20 saves in a 40 win over the Dinos in Calgary.

On Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena, she stopped another 32 shots in a 1-0 win.

Anderson leads Canada West goaltenders with three shutouts and total saves with 235. She also has a 1.30 goals-against average and 0.962 save percentage.

The Pronghorns have a bye this weekend before returning to action Nov. 9-10 when they travel to Winnipeg to take on the defending U Sports Champion Manitoba Bisons.

Guyn, a fifth-year swimmer, was the top scoring Pronghorns men’s swimmer as the team finished third behind the Calgary Dinos and the UBC Thunderbirds in a tri-meet versus two of the top swim programs in the country.

Guyn scored in two events, finishing third in the 50m freestyle and seventh in 50m butterfly.

The Horns swim team is in Vancouver this weekend for the Colleges Cup Pacific, hosted by the UBC Thunderbirds.
