• “An University Evolving of Geography Lethbridge of Income will present Inequality, L1102, Prentice Nov. Institute 2, noon-1:30 Boardroom, p.m. at U of L professor Library. Ivan with Townshend, interests in urban, a geography rural and social geography, will discuss the socio-spatial difference­s between the “three cities” of Calgary. He looks at the patterns of rising income inequality and income change in Calgary between 1980 and 2010 and how they can lead to social cleavage. • Galt Museum’s First Friday Fun handson history program for all ages (children to attend with adults) continues Nov. 2 from 1:30-3 p.m., featuring “Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead is a festival held in Mexico that has its origins in pre-Hispanic culture. The celebratio­n features Altars of the Dead which pay homage to loved ones who have died. Objects are added to the altar that help to memorializ­e the deceased loved ones. Join us in learning about this traditiona­l celebratio­n while creating your own mask. Registrati­on not required. Museum admission applies (free to annual pass holders). • Growing Abilities is a parent support and play group for children with differing abilities. It is open to parents/caregivers and their children with disabiliti­es, as well as siblings and support staff. There will be planned activities based on children’s developmen­tal needs, abilities and interests. There will also be openended activities for siblings and space for parents to connect. This group will be facilitate­d by an Early Childhood Educator and a Parent Educator, so one-on-one support is not available to children. Give it a try at Family Centre Downtown on Fridays from 2-3:30 p.m. at #225, 200 4 Ave. S. Witches and goblins will haunt the Atrium as they brew up potions, race mysterious floating coffins and scramble up some supernatur­al slime in the eighth annual Spooky Science Weekend. Science students have organized Halloween based, hands-on science activities to expose children aged five to 12 to several streams of science. • University of Lethbridge will present “Fairy Tales and Magic,” Nov. 2 and 3, 7:30 p.m., Recital Hall, W570. The U of L Opera Workshop presents a night filled with fairies and witches, kings and queens, princesses, and knights in shining armour. Scenes from Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinc­k, Iolanthe by Gilbert and Sullivan, and Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim are part of the lineup. • University of Lethbridge will present “southernAB,” Nov. 2, 7-9 p.m., Dr. Foster James Penny Building, 324 5 St. S. This free exhibition features digital artworks by U of L new media students. The exhibition uses photograph­s from southern Alberta taken between Sept. 7 and Oct. 7. • Compassion­ate Friends, a non-profit internatio­nal support group for parents who have had a child die, meets the first

Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.noon at McKillop United Church, 2329 15 Ave. S. (but is not affiliated with the church). Parents and supporting family members or friends are encouraged to attend and observe or talk about their experience­s — it is just parents talking to parents.
