Kodiaks court teams back home this weekend

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks volleyball and basketball teams are back at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium this weekend.

In volleyball, the Kodiaks welcome the Briercrest College Clippers to town tonight and Saturday.

Meanwhile, the basketball teams are home for one game when they host the Olds Broncos Saturday night with the women’s game at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.

The Kodiaks men’s volleyball team heads into the weekend off to a blazing 6-0 start and ranked fifth in the first Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n rankings of the season as they take on the 3-3 Clippers. Lethbridge’s Carter Hansen is first in kills in the ACAC with 92 and second in kills-per-set at 4.6. Dax Whitehead is second in hitting percentage (.389), Matt Primrose leads the ACAC in digs (69), Michael Svab is second in blocks per set (0.94) and Zach Wikenheise­r is second in assists per set (9.46). The Kodiaks women are 1-5 to start the season and will be in tough against the 6-0 Clippers, who are ranked fourth in Canada.

Kodiaks veteran Laura Serafini leads the team with 40 kills on the season and Grace Kazanowski leads the conference with 1.22 blocks per set.

Game time tonight is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men.

The college is hosting its Junior and Senior High School appreciati­on night tonight.

Junior and senior high school students and their chaperones can attend the Kodiaks volleyball games against Briercrest for free with a free pizza for dinner, games, a photo booth and contests for prizes.

The pizza dinner is available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free to Lethbridge College students with their student ID, $3 for college employees, $5 for seniors, youth and alumni and $8 for the public.
