A man accused of shooting pedestrians with a BB gun during the summer will be back in court later this month.

Eniola Sodiq Adekunle made a brief appearance in Lethbridge provincial court Wednesday, but his matter was adjourned to Nov. 28 to give him time to meet with his lawyer.

Adekunle was only scheduled to attend the Case Management Office Wednesday, but he was sent to docket court where the Crown recommended conditions be placed on Adekunle’s previous release order. The Case Management Office allows people accused of certain offences to initially deal with their matters without actually attending a court hearing,

The accused was ordered to avoid any contact with the complainant in the case and with a witness to the alleged shooting. Adekunle was also ordered to stay away from a specific southside residence.

Lethbridge police arrested and charged five people in the early morning hours of Aug. 28 following a weapons complaint.

Police were called to the area of Stafford Drive North and Highway 3 at 3:50 a.m. where someone in a vehicle was reportedly shooting at people on the street with a pellet gun. Two people were hit with the pellets but didn’t require medical attention.

Shortly after responding to the call, officers stopped a grey Dodge Caravan in the 900 block of 2 A Avenue North where five people were arrested and a revolver-type BB gun, air cartridge and BBs were seized from the vehicle.

Adekunle, as well as four youths who cannot be identified, were charged with single counts of assault with weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
